Black Friday

Black Friday. The biggest shopping day of the year for stores here in the good ol' U. S. of A.

A day when the masses head out to the malls and other stores in search of sales and good money saving opportunities for their holiday shopping.

A day when any sane person will stay home, or at least as far away from the malls as possible.

A day when I have to go to work. At the mall. Yippie.

At least I get to go into work at noon, and didn't have to be there at 4 to be ready for the store to open at 5. At least I don't have to be out on the sales floor trying to help customers find the impossible. At least I don't have to worry about defrosting the car in the 26F degree (-3C) morning darkness.

It sure would be nice if there were an employee-only parking area though!

Oh well, at least it will make the next pay-day nice.

Employees Only Parking lot. What a novel idea. And not in the farthest reaches of the parking lot.

I'm one of the sane ones. You couldn't pay me to go shopping on a sale day!!

I keep wondering, though, why don't stores just do some sensible pricing, something that really is a reasonable profit-for-the-store price, and forget sales. The bottom line might even show a better return in the long run. I know I'd be more likely to buy a dress, for instance, if the price was reasonable. If the stores can sell at sale prices 50% to 70% less than the regular non-sale price, then why not up the wholesale price maybe 30% and forget the sales.

I don't have an MBA, so maybe I don't understand the market.
