Seriously though, every year we say we are going to cut down on the gift giving, but it has yet to happen. Hubby and I have too much fun going out and finding things we know the kids will love, and like many parents we have a hard time curtailing our generosity at this time of the year. As a result, our kids have every toy known to mankind that is appropriate for their age groups, or so it seems.
The boys got a dart board from grandma & grandpa that has them all kinds of excited; the twins have swimsuit calendars that they are drooling excessively over; Hubby has a new power tool that has him giggling like a school girl, and I have more kitchen related toys than I know what to do with at one time!
While some women may not like getting kitchen gadgets as a gift, I LOVE it!!! I now have a new crock pot (6 quart versus my 3 quart older one), a 10 X 20 inch griddle that I can’t wait to use, a new set of pots so I can cook more than one thing at a time for dinner, a stove-top veggie steamer that will be used in about an hour to fix the carrots, and a rice cooker/veggie steamer that will definitely get used often in my house! There were several other kitchen related toys, many that will come in handy when I do my canning next year, all of which I can’t wait to use!
Now we are in the wind down point of Christmas. Things are getting played with then put away, dinner is underway, and I’m working on keeping up with dishes and laundry. I guess we are well on the way to recovering from Christmas this year!
It’s impossible, ask anyone who knows me.
It is impossible for me to make a small amount of stuffing (or dressing depending on what you personally call it). On the holidays I make The Big Dinner, I usually make enough stuffing to feed a third world country for a week or more. Hubby says I should have been a cook for the Army, but this is usually the only thing I make such immense quantities of. Well, except maybe for spaghetti, but that is for another entry.
Boy is my stuffing good! Second to the desserts, the stuffing is the favorite part of the meal for everyone but #3. It has a lot of flavor, so he doesn’t like it. The rest of the family… yeah baby it is the favorite. So, even though I make enough to feed the population of greater Tokyo, it doesn’t last for more than a few days.
This year, I tried a new variation on my recipe. It is good, but not as good as my usual recipe. We will enjoy it while it lasts, but it won’t be repeated next year.
