Mowing lawns and washing cars were "jobs" they settled for in the past, but this year #2 is more determined. He decided he wants a job for the summer, even though he is only 15. In pursuit of that objective, he got an application from the local Fred Meyers, filled it out and rode his bike back up there (it is about a mile away) to turn it in. He understands that if he is to get a job, I will only allow him to work part time. I think it is great that he wants to earn money, but he is still a kid, and I think it is important for him to be a kid and do kid things while he still can.
Overall though, I have to say I'm proud of his attitude about working. I could wish for his school grades to be better, and if he doesn't scramble to fix them in the remaining 2 weeks of school he may be repeating the 9th grade, but he does have a good attitude about all of it.
Admittedly at least one of his grades he is not completely at fault for. He is taking algebra, and we moved schools in the middle of the year. The class he is in now is WAY ahead of where he was at his last school. It is hard to understand concepts that were built on lessons he never received.
I suppose I could look at the good side of him having to repeat a grade, it will give us more time to bulk up his college fund!
Hey, you've got to find the good in everything!
