Hubby and #1 busted their butts today to get the fence finished. This afternoon they got a helping hand when the neighbor brought over a couple hammers and went to work along side them. They got everything but the gate done, and that should be quick work tomorrow. Meanwhile #2 and #3 worked on getting the trampoline put up. It is now sitting erect on the soft soggy grass sinking further and further in every time they jump on it. From the looks of it, I’d estimate that it has sunk about 4 inches into the ground. That puppy won’t be moving until the kids are out of the house and we take it apart!
Mowing under it should prove interesting. In the past we’ve always moved the trampoline to mow under it. I’d say that we won’t be doing that again!
I managed to get my desk (mostly) clean, paid some bills, balanced one of the bank accounts against the statement, cleaned the kitchen, made chicken stock, cleaned the kitchen again (and two more times after I left the house for a short time and came back to find the kids had wreaked havoc in it looking for food), went shopping, grilled burgers (with some wonderfully marinated mushrooms and onions in olive oil and garlic to top them off… YUMMY!) and looked for my parents.
My folks came down last night for a business meeting in the Portland area. About mid-day the people they were supposed to meet with called my brother’s looking for them. Steve & Kathy called me after that to see if I had heard from Mom or Dad. From there, the phone calls started. I called everyone I could think of, and a couple motels where I know they have stayed in the past to see if they were checked in there. No luck. Calling the State Patrol revealed nothing of significance on the freeway between Seattle and Portland, so I knew they weren’t involved in any traffic related incidents.
Around 5 or so they showed up at Steve’s for dinner. They had slept in and were running late. Not having a cell phone down here, there was no way for us to contact them, and they didn’t have the chance to contact us.
I think I’m going to arrange to meet them at the airport every time they fly down, and give them my cell phone for the duration of their visit. That should help to prevent things like this in the future. I’ll have to be sure to give them the code for voicemail too.
Anyway, they have another meeting tomorrow morning, and are driving up here after that. We will see them for dinner tomorrow night, and I’m trying to talk them into staying here rather than a motel again. Maybe it will save them enough $$ to make a quick shopping trip while they’re here. There is a new fabric shop I want to go to with my Mom. I’m sure I can find some yarn for some projects I want to do, and I’m fairly sure she can find enough fabric to keep her quilting until her next trip down!
