Monday Morning Rituals
Mon Nov 29 2004

After #3’s last incident at school, I have started walking him to and picking him up from school in the hopes of avoiding any incidents with the girls he has had problems with in the past. It has been fun doing this, with Rocky dragging me and setting a much quicker pace than #3 would normally set if given the chance.

This morning we set out as usual, and after about 15 steps out the door I realized that I need to get some warmer sweats! I usually don sweatpants a t-shirt and a hooded sweatshirt, and this morning that just didn’t cut it. It is COLD out there! Frost coated every surface it could get to, and our breath seemed to freeze as it exited our noses and mouth, then snow down to the ground. It is definitely time to break out the gloves, scarves and hats!

I also got a call from #2 at school. The notes I wrote for him and instructed to put in his back pack are sitting on the table where he left them. In an effort to teach the kids to be more responsible, I’ve stopped taken them forgotten items. I instructed #2 to go to the school nurse and get a note from her to give to his PE teacher. This tactic was started at the beginning of the school year when both #1 and #2 were forgetting their lunches every day. I brought it to them the first day, and informed them that it was the last time. If they forgot the lunch, they went without. Needless to say, they learned not to forget it. Now they are just forgetting assignments and such.

Sigh.

Good strategy. Logical consequences. It will serve them well later in life!

    Kudos MOM!

My mom never brought me forgotten items. If I forgot my locker key or my gym clothes that was my issue for the day. They'll catch on to the note and homework thing eventually.

I use that strategy too. I've only had one kid actually go hungry and she only went hungry once!

I don't know who it was harder on the kids or the school. I actually had to put my policy in writing because the school was so afraid of law suits. geesh :)
