The Boys
Tue Nov 23 2004

Both #1 and #2 are on the swim team for the school. They started practice last week and were put on the Junior Varsity team as they are both 9th graders and at the bottom of the High School Food Chain.

Yesterday #1 was moved from the JV team to the Varsity team. He is thrilled, #2 is jealous and Hubby and I are excited for him. He has worked his butt off for it though, and it seems to have paid off.

The boys have 2 hours of swim practice every day after school, which is helping to eliminate the occasional difficulties getting to sleep in the evenings. By the time we pick them up from practice and get them home they are hungry and tired.

While I chuckle over it, the boys were horrified to discover yesterday that despite being out of school for the Winter Break, they will still have swim practice. Not every day mind you, just the 27th through 30th of December.

Hubby looked over the meet schedule, and it looks like he will be able to go with me to almost all of their meets. #3 won’t be thrilled to tag along, but I think with his game boy and art supplies I can keep him busy during most of the time. He will want to cheer on his brothers, but let’s face it; he will only be cheering for 15 intermittent minutes of the 2+ hours of the meet.

#2 announced yesterday that he also wants to join the Diving team. We told him to go for it and not to do any belly flops. We got dirty looks for that, go figure.

One thing I was thrilled to discover about the team is that they do bi-weekly grade checks on all the team members. The coaches frequently tell the team that if their grades aren’t acceptable, they are off the team.

Hopefully this will be enough inspiration for the boys that Hubby and I don’t need to get on them as much about their grades. With this last report card, #1’s grades were better than we had ever seen them. #2 did manage to get a 2.0, but just by the skin of his teeth. He has lost all electrical privileges at home as we have taken his TV, Game Cube, Computer and Game Boy away from him until the next report card. If his grades come up he gets it all back, if they don’t he also looses swim team also. We are hoping he has enough incentive to bring them up now.

#3’s report card was also a good one. His grade for Spelling/Handwriting left something to be desired, but all his other grades were great. He has been reveling in our praises for the fantastic grades, and working to bring up the other grade for the next report card.

I'm going to have to write down and use the term electrical privlages when I have kids. Good idea to chunk the privlages like that.

Congratulations.. Your boys are on it
I can't wait for my GS to get off Probation and be able to do things like that. His PO has him in so many after school this and that for the past 6 months that he has had something every single weekday.. except an occasional holiday.
The councelor for my GS is also swim coach. This entry gave me some ideas..
Thanx hon and keep up the good work
