Picking a Peck of Pickled 'Maters
Sun Sep 26 2004

OK, I'm not Peter Piper, and I only had one Anaheim pepper, but I have lots and lots of green pear tomatoes.

As our weather is rapidly cooling down, my tomato plants have given up the ghost for the season. The only problem is that while the season came to an end, the tomato plants hadn’t quite finished. I found myself with three large bowls full of green pear tomatoes. So I asked myself, “Self, what the heck do I do with all these tiny, bite-sized green tomatoes? Why pickle them of course!”

So I am now in the clean up stage of canning for the day, with a chorus of pings! accompanying my cleaning and putting things away. The scent of garlic and vinegar has infused my kitchen and the twins come sniffing around every few minutes to see if any are ready yet for popping into their mouths. They don’t understand why I’m telling them that they need to wait a few weeks before we open any of the jars. The concept of aging is a difficult one for them when they want a snack!

Maybe I can divert their attention with the bowl of ripe pear ‘maters in the fridge. Can’t hurt to try!

Yellow tomatoes? I've never heard of them, but I'm going to check the big nursery and see if they have seeds or plants when Spring comes around again. I think I could grow some in a pot on my patio, as it gets afternoon and late afternoon sun in the spring and summer.

The good and the bad. No new home at Christmas, but more time to sock away some extra $$. Things happen for a reason, don't they.

But I don't understand why only TWO plans a week are being approved. Sounds like bureaucratic boondogling to me. Oh, well.

Hope you get the tutoring job. Sounds like something I'd like to do, too. And the money would be nice, but as far as I know, such tutoring here is strictly volunteer.

    Shalom

Gotta love those pings; sounds of a successful day. :)

Bummer about the house delay, but it did not suprise me. My brother lives in south west Washington and he ran into all sorts of non-sense with county agengies when he started building on his property. In the end it all comes down to power trips and money.

Our lot was the dumping lot also. Watch out for debris when you go to put your lawn in. We found garbage cans full off scraps hidden under the dirt in the front yard. Looks like you won't be moving until early summer. Good luck on getting the reading tutor job. That would be great.
