Air Museum
Mon May 31 2004

We took the kids up to the Museum of Flight today, and with it being Memorial Day the place was packed! One bonus we found once we got there, since Hubby and I are Veterans, our admission for today was free; we only had to pay for the kids. Saving $22 was a great way to go!

We had hoped to get into the tour of the Concorde, but the line was huge, so we skipped that and took the tour of Air Force One. This was the bird that flew all the Presidents from Eisenhower through Nixon. LBJ was sworn in on this plane, and according to one of the tour guides, he had a tendency to take a quick shower once they were airborne, and then brief the press as he was drying off, buck nekkid! Hmm, I wonder how much film the Secret Service confiscated from reporters trying to take the picture of a lifetime?

The kids had a blast there in all the “hands on” areas. All of them managed to run out of fuel when they were in the space walk simulators for the space shuttle, but they didn’t seem to mind too much.

Hubby and I were making our way through the museum, reading about the history of all the planes they have on static display there, which resulted in extreme impatience in the kids who wanted to run through the “boring stuff” and get to the interactive areas. Then, as is typical with kids, we had a difficult time getting them away from the areas they could play. We resorted to bribery finally. Dairy Queen won out over one more ride on the glider simulator.

Yummy!

Oh, man. I am on a gardening/planting thrill ride, too. Got all sorts of stuff in the ground yesterday, and then mowed the lawn. (Didn't finish that until almost ten, but it's a reel-type mower, so I didn't disturb the neighbors.)

The stacks of tires thing is a great idea, and did you know you can do potatoes that way? It's stack as you go, though. Plant the potato in one tire, and when its taller than a second tire would be, put on the next tire and fill that one with dirt. You can do that all summer, and you'll have potatoes top to bottom, a real bumper crop from one plant!

    Hugs,
