Takin' A Break
Mon Apr 12 2004

I had been working steadily at my homework yesterday from about 10:30 when Hubby & the kids left, until about 6. I did take intermittent breaks to water the lawn, surf the web and stretch, but other than that I was blissfully uninterrupted in my studies. Then, around 6 as I was working on a problem, and felt I had a good grasp of what I was doing, I fired up my calculator to check my work. Diligently I punched in the numbers and symbols needed, hit enter and immediately got a message Batteries are low and them my calculator shut itself off.

DOH!!!!!

A quick search of just about every drawer in the house revealed that I had NO AAA batteries anywhere. I took a deep breath, grabbed my purse & keys, and headed off to the only store I knew of that would be open on Easter Sunday. Fred Meyers.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Fred Meyers? Consider it to have been mentioned.

I arrived at the store, grabbed the batteries, and just to stretch my legs, wandered a bit through the garden department. A SALE!!!!! COOL!!!!!!

About 40 minutes later I arrived back home with the much needed AAA batteries and 3 plants. Deciding to extend my break a bit, I planted and watered them as quickly as I could, then headed back to my studies.

After pretty much reaching math burnout around 8, I packed it in and chilled with a bit of TV & crocheting before going to bed at 9.

I set my alarm clock for a God awful early time, then with the help of melatonin headed directly for slumber-land. Do not pass “Go”, do not collect $200.

I’ve been studying now for almost 2 hours, and am taking a break to clear my mind, eat breakfast (a veggie, cheese & salmon omelet) and get some caffeine into my system. It is roughly 6:20 right now, and I will be heading into school about 90 minutes. I will now officially acknowledge that Monday has arrived.

OK, breakfast & break is over, time to hit the books again.

Yippie!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I LOVE Fred Meyer stores.

It's one of many reasons I would like to live in Oregon!!! They have everything! And at prices that don't make you faint. I get to go there when I visit family. I introduced my mother to Freddy's a few months ago. She was properly in awe. :-)

No Fred Meyer's here, but it sounds like I want one. Do they sell crochet stuff too? If so I'll be in heaven. ;o)

Have a good day at school, if that is possible.

The Fred Meyer's sounds more to me like a Super Walmart (but much nicer I'm guessing) than a Kroger. Our Krogers out here tend to be strictly grocery with a tiny bit of extra 'specials', the tvs and things. They are however building a brand new one about 10 miles from here, I'll be curious now to see what the new on is like. Maybe more like you've described.

Fred Meyer's DOES however sound a lot like Meijer's stores that I know are in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio... not sure how widespread they are other than that. I wonder if they are related somehow, having nearly the same last name? I'm actually looking forward to going to Michigan because we can go to the Meijer's near my grandparents house. I still have clothes I bought there four years ago.

Ah ... an essay on reluctant nonconformism? I'd love to see it when you're done.
