Today I’ve actually been looking at the site with friends and family in mind. When I came across a Madame Isaac Pereire Rose, my first thought was of my SIL and how it would fit into her desire for a Cottage or English Garden look just perfectly. I could also picture a row of Lupine Tutti-Frutti along the front of her house. With her love for lilacs, Leptodermis Oblonga also brought her to mind.
I’ve also become very enamored with something called Fragrant Corkscrew Vine and will hopefully be purchasing some very soon to grow up some trellis’ and use as a sun-screen for the windows along the west side of my house. I also wish they had not sold out of the Carolina Jasmine Margarita as I really would have liked to have some for between the two bedroom windows along the front of the house. I’ve been wondering if I can’t find a couple places along the eaves of the house to put a few hanging baskets with the Fragrant Entryway Circle Mat Collection planted in it. I’ll have to look into that one though. There might be an area or two that it would work in. Of course, in my dreams, someday someone breeds a strain of Daphne that will bloom all summer long. Until then, I’ll yearn longingly for it! There is also (I think) one area I can put this Sweet Autumn clematis in to. I’m really looking forward to seeing if it will work in that spot. Knowing that they like to keep their feet in the shade, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for something to plant around the bottom of them. I’m considering Heliotrope Iowa along with a few other unscented low growing items.
While planning my yard this year, I’ve been thinking fragrance-fragrance-fragrance. I would love to have a yard that as people walk by they take deep breaths to breathe in the scents of summer. The one drawback to this is, most flowers known for fragrance are sun lovers, and my yard is seriously lacking in that quality.
There are some flowers known for fragrance that are beneficial to salads and other culinary delights. The Giant Fragrant Nasturtiums are one that I actually might have a spot for in my yard, but I’m out of luck with just about anything else.
Have I mentioned before that I love this time of year?
