You may be thinking blowtorch, but no. A simple shovel is my primary weeding tool.
Step 1 (after finding a shovel and identifying where you want to weed), stick the shovel in the ground.

Step 2, push the shovel under the weed(s) severing or including all roots.

Step 3, turn and chop up everything you had on the shovel.
