What to do with free time?
Tue May 13 2003

This is so wonderful having a week in which most of the day is mine. The house is clean, I only have a few things to do in the garden, and the laundry is at a managable stage. This leaves me hours and hours of luxurious free time.

Yesterday I geeked on the computer. Today I may take a nap. Who knows? While the temptation is there to go see X2 (yes, again) I haven't opted for that yet. Maybe later in the week! Today? I think I'll go to Home Depot or Lowes. Or maybe go to the Y and sit in the spa for a while, letting the heat and water jets work their magic.

On to other thoughts... Hubby and #2 have testing this Saturday for TKD. Hubby is not overly happy about the requirements they have for the adults who test. In addition to being able to show that he knows what he has learned so far, he has to write a paper on ethics. Between his work and school, his time is pretty much tapped out. He was only informed of this requirement last night, and is not sure when he is will have time to do this paper. Personally I think it is a silly requirement, but that is only my opinion.

I found out #1 is flunking math. I'm looking into the possibility of putting him in summer school so he can catch up to the level he needs to be at for next year. I know he will resist this, and it will add quite a bit of unpleasantness to the summer, but he has to know this stuff. If he doesn't want to go to summer school, he needs to drop the attitude at school that he has about his current math teacher. Just because you don't like a teacher is not a reason to not do the work assigned in class. He doesn't seem to understand that.

Maybe instead of an entire summer school day you can just find someone to teach him math. Someone who is young and "cool" like one of the kids at the college. Maybe if you can find someone he will like he won't mind having to do the work as much. Have all three boys do it together with seperate work. Then it won't be like he is the only one having to miss out on summer fun time.

I think he needs to be held accountable for his grade. Summer school is the way to go- if that doesn't work, he might end up being held back a grade after all.

Maybe it will bring a bit of responsibility for his future into his mind!

Girl, I hear ya! I have had 2 weeks off and I love that feeling of freedom from school. Even if it is temporary.
