Powerful words

I'm taking another break and getting caught up on my diary reading for the day. I happened across this diary and was struck by the power behind the words of the e-mail this diarist shared.

Here in America, we will never truly forget 9/11. Just more than 2 years ago there was a cry of outrage in our little corner of the world. We were horrified to watch the twin towers fall. We cried as we heard about the heroic actions taken by a few on the plane that went down in Pennsylvania. We were shaken to see the damage done to the Pentagon.

For the last 17 months, our country has been looking for the people who did this to us. We do not seek revenge, we seek justice. We look to bring these people out from their cowardly hiding places, and have them atone for thier crimes.

While there are many of us who remember this. Shamefully there are too many Americans who seem to have forgotten the actions taken against our nation. I hear on the news about teachers who single out children of military families, telling them that their parents are immoral and horrible people for being part of this and other military actions. I see protests against war with anyone (not just Iraq), condemning our soldiers and our government.

I saw a comic recently that said it all. It showed Patton and another general sitting in a jeep (circa 1940ish) looking across the German border. The caption? "Maybe we should send in some inspectors to see if the Germans are as bad as people say."

Duh.
