The doc he is seeing up there has him off most of the medications his previous doc down here had him on. I had suspected that he was being over-medicated for a while now, but was continually being told by the docs to wait and see each time they would raise the dosage on any of the given meds. At this point he is on less half the dosage of ADHD med he had been on before, and a higher dosage of the seizure med that is known to act as a mood stabilizer. He is completely off the other meds he had been on.
#1 has been in school for about 3 weeks now. From what I understand he has had no problems at school. If he has had any problems, they have not been significant enough to be noted. I would imagine he is facing the typical challenges any boy faces as he starts into puberty.
On Thursdays and Fridays he goes to the quilt shop my Mom works at on those days. He helps out around the shop, cleaning up and helping to keep things in order. Mom tells me he greets people as they enter the shop, he is cheerful and having a great time while there. When customers buy fabric, he puts the bolts away when finished. He made a nametag for himself that said Fabric Boy and seems to really enjoy being there. He enjoys sewing and doing crafts, so for him it must almost be like being in a sort of candy shop, surrounded by the things he enjoys doing!
I think the biggest benefit he has is attention. Living with his grandparents he is able to get so much more attention than he did at home competing with two other brothers for Hubby and my time. At his grandparents he is able to be the star I have always known he is capable of being. In his case, ADHD seemed to ge geared more towards lack of getting attention rather than lack of focus on his part!
While I am so happy for him, it saddens me that we were unable to give him that here. I have noticed that #2 and #3 seem to be thriving more being the only boys here. I contribute that to the increased attention they are able to receive from Hubby and I. I only wish we could have found the right balance for everything to work out this well while #1 was here. I am hoping for the future that we can find a way to make it work, and be successful for everyone. That is one thing that only time and patience will tell.
