Hopefully someone can explain this to me.
If my son destroys property in my home, spits on me, physically assaults me, and is verbally abusive to me and someone witnesses it, nothing happens (unless I choose to press charges against my son).
In return, after said actions, I give my son a smack and a neighbor sees or hears me doing this, I am charged with, possibly arrested and possibly go to jail for child abuse.
Can ANYONE 'splain this to me? Anyone? I REALLY want to know the answer to this!
The idea of duct tape is looking better and better. I am not giving up on the military acadamies....I like the look of this one, Major Pain's Knuckle Ridge School of Hard Knocks....sounds good. Does anyone know where the town of Hog-tied Oklahoma is?
My MIL has been confined to a wheel chair for several years now as a result of MS. Due to the progression of her disease, several years ago she reached the point where she required more living assistance than my family or my SIL could give her. She has been living in an Adult Living Assistance facility since that time.
Just over a month ago, my family had a B-day party for my MIL at my SIL's house. During the course of the evening, Mom fell when trying to move from her wheel chair, breaking her tail bone.
This fall resulted in her being moved from her Living Assisted home into a Nursing home for her to recover. She was told she would be there about a week or so. She was there for 31 days.
Mom got home last Saturday, 20 pounds lighter and much weaker than when she went into the nursing home (she developed an infection while in there contributing to this weakness).
Yesterday Mom fell again, this time hitting her head. She is so weak that she is completely unable to help those trying to assist her getting back into her chair or anywhere else. This time she was sent to a hospital. As it turns out she still, or again has an infection.
The place where she lives has told her that she cannot come back until she is strong enough to move herself, or only require the minor assitance of one person to move around.
All of this happened about the time we made our move. Hunkka-hunkka Hubby, who already is pretty filled with guilt, feeling that he can't do enough for his Mom. This now has increased.
We will be going down to (hopefully) close the house on Friday. We will, of course, go visit Mom while there. This does her good, but I hate what it does to him. He already fights depression, and these type of visits make it all the worse.
I forsee a very glum weekend coming up, and a high chocolate intake.....
Well, the house will not be able to close any sooner than Tuesday. We still need to go down on Friday to take care of some things and visit Mom. We had hoped to get everything done then since Hubby has the day off.
We haven't figured out yet how we are going to get time to go close the house next week. Hubby has no vacation time, so it will have to be after work on any day but Monday or Wednesday as those are his school days.
#3 is still under the weather a bit today. He is getting better, but it sucks for him to have a week off school and be sick for the whole time. I had hoped to get all the kids over to the library and get cards for them, that will have to wait until he is better.
#1 does not understand why we can't just leave him here alone and go do those type of things. Try explaining to a 12 year old why a sick 8 year old can't be left alone. It isn't easy! #2 is more stoic about it, taking it in stride and finding other things to do. It REALLY helps that we have the PlayStation. It has kept #3 busy, and a sick busy child is SO much easier to care for than a bored sick child!
Why do Vets ask me this question? I feed my dogs BARF. Sounds gross, huh?
BARF is not what it sounds like. BARF stands for Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods, or Bones And Raw Food. See www.barfworld.com for more in depth information.
This diet is based on the philosophy that animals should eat what nature intended for them to eat. Millions of years ago, cavemen did not run to the local grocery and buy kibble for their dogs. They did not login to www.petsmart.com and have kibble delivered to their caves.
Dogs evolved basically as scavangers. They ate what they could kill, the carrion they could find, or what they could find growing (grass, fruits, veggies). Dogs are omnivores, not carnivores.
While a dog would be as happy as a pig in mud to eat nothing but meat, this is not healthy for them. Yes, they do need meat, bones, organs, but they also need vegetable matter. When dogs or wolves kill an animal, typically the first thing they eat is that animal's stomach, which is full of mashed vegetable matter.
For anyone reading this from OZ, you may be familiar with a vet down there, Dr. Ian Billinghurst. While he is not the first to proclaim this philosophy, he is probably the best known for this due to a few books of his on the market, "Give Your Dog A Bone" and "Grow Your Pup With Bones". These two books are something of a bible to several BARF feeders.
How difficult is this? Not at all. It is as simple as going to your local grocery store, butcher or meat processor and buying what no one else wants. My dogs primarily are fed the chopped up veggie and fruit scraps my family does not eat, as well as Turkey necks & backs, Chicken necks & backs, Pork necks & feet, Beef necks & whatever bones I can get from the butcher.
For anyone lucky enough to live near someone who raises Ostrich or Emu, the necks and heads of these birds is reputed to be a hit with the dogs.
Yes, it sounds totally gross and disgusting.
I have dogs whose breed in the US typically lives from 6 to 10 years. Great Danes. These same dogs, if bred right, fed a good diet and taken care of the right way, can live up to 17 years. No I do not believe that the diet is the only thing that contributes to this. Obviously breeding and the fitness of the dog contributes towards this. If I can, however, prevent certain illness, disease or tendencies of the breed by feeding a natural diet, I would be a fool not to do so.
Vets are amazed at how good my dogs teeth, skin and eyes look and compliment me on how healthy they look. These same vets then ask what I feed. In horror they then tell me I am killing my dogs. No, cheap kibble will kill my dogs. High quality natural foods will promote good health in my dogs, thank you very much.
OK, I will step down from my soap box and go dig up those books to lend to the vet that recently tried to lecture me on this.....
