Of Feathers and Nests
Fri May 27 2016

For the last two weeks, one of my Maran hens has been broody. I tried getting her off the nest and back into the laying population without success for this entire time.

Finally today I decided to heck with it, I'll go get a few chicks to put under her.

Guess who has been intermittently off the nest on her own today?

Yep, Miss Broody.

OK, I'll keep an eye on her until Sunday. If today was a fluke, or if I only happened to go out to see them when she was off the nest for a brief time for a nature break, I'll continue with my plan.

If not, I'll look forward to the daily egg count going up in the near future.

Now if I can just figure out why my Easter Egger has not produced anything in 12 days. Either she's slacking, or has decided that there is a shrub somewhere that is more attractive to lay under than the nesting boxes.
