I should mention that it is my plan with my replacement chickens, to also get a Rooster.
The Rooster will have multiple functions, among them being to deter the cat.
There is no way Zelda (my cat) could ever take a chicken right now, she is still a young cat, and not a large one at that. But I've no doubt that a Rooster would deter from playing her "pounce at the bird and then run away" game she seems so fond of.
Now, I should mention, Hubby has never really been around farm animals. I recognize the possibility that after a few months (or weeks) of crowing, he may be ready to put the Rooster into a soup pot.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will not be the case.
