Day One of the Shut-Down
Tue Oct 01 2013

I, along with 800,000 of my close... um, kinda-co-workers, have been given the opportunity to take some unpaid days off. Wasn’t Uncle Sam nice to give us that?

Yeah, I don’t think so either.

The funny thing is, all these Republicans that people are complaining about, are doing exactly what they said they would do if they were voted into office. We wanted change. Many of us were unhappy with the passing of Obamacare (a.k.a. the Affordable Care Act, or ACA), so we voted for change. And we’re getting it.

Can we really be angry with these politicians for basically keeping their campaign promises?

Yes.

Why? Because they could have done it differently.

I will be the first to admit, I voted for some of them, and I was encouraged that they seemed so committed to working to repeal ACA. I’m not entirely thrilled now, however, to be home not getting paid.

We are making adjustments to our spending, cutting back where we can, and praying that this doesn’t last for too long. Politically I’m hoping this opens the lines of communication between the people currently behaving like spoiled children in DC.

I can hope, can’t I?

Honestly, I think the emnity goes so deep between the parties at this point that they'd rather ruin the country than agree on anything. The fact that they're still getting a paycheck when you aren't fries my fritters.

Keeping my fingers crossed that this is temporary and that your household doesn't have to deal with it for long.
