Canning Continued
Sun Aug 22 2010

I had hoped to make apricot jam today, but arrived at the market to find nary an apricot. However, nectarines and peaches were on sale. So… I now have 6 quarts and 2 pints of nectarines in various stages of cannage.

Is that a word? Well, it is now.

Unless I pick up more berries soon, I think I’m done with jam for the season. Next up, apple butter and apple sauce! Maybe pears, I haven’t decided yet.

I've been pretty disappointed in the summer fruit so far this year. Most that's been available here has been pretty tasteless. I am planning to go get a couple of boxes of green beans though. I miss having my own home canned in the pantry.

On another topic..... when you put in your raised beds did you put straw bales in the bottom under the soil? I seem to remember you talking about it and wondered how it worked out. I'm trying to get new beds built and thought that might be the way to go.
