I Was Minding My Own Business When...
Tue May 26 2009

So, I was puttering around the yard yesterday, getting ready to weed one part of the yard, turn some soil in another part of the yard and do other generalized puttering. I decided to hose off the stoop outside the garage and water down the rest of the dog run, so I pulled out the hose, turned on the water and headed that direction. I got the stoop and small porch area hosed off, and started hosing down the area we have wood chips down for the dogs. I stepped off the porch, and over the sound of the hose I heard a ripping and popping and felt like I stepped on a land mine.

I called Hubby over, who helped me hobble into the house and onto the recliner where I could get my leg up. He got me one of the many bags of frozen peas/corn from the freezer and I plopped it down on my knee and sat to wait for the blessed numbing that is only available through application of ice.

About an hour later (and a second bag of frozen veggies), I took a test-step, then immediately hollered upstairs for #2, asking for him to bring down his crutches (thankfully I didn’t get rid of them after his need of them a few years back). I gimped around a bit more, and then accepted the fact that I might want someone to take a look at it.

Hubby and I headed into the ER around 2 in the afternoon, and were home by 6. I think that’s the shortest ER trip we’ve EVER had.

I should mention, this is the knee I had surgery on 30 years ago. There is a screw placed such that my trick knee no longer performs tricks (which is a good thing).

The X-ray didn’t show any fractures, or any problems with the screw (which is what Hubby and I thought may have happened). Instead, the doc “thinks” that the soft tissue at the bottom of the knee has been torn. He suggested a CAT scan or MRI would tell more, and referred me to the clinic today or tomorrow. I don’t think they will do an MRI with the screw in my knee, and I guess I will find out if they do a CAT scan after I bully my way in to see a doc today.

I suppose I could look on the positive side, my 3 day weekend has turned into a 4 day weekend!

You mean the Air Force and the Army are on speaking terms? Oh, I suppose there's still some connection seeing as how it used to be the Army Air Force. Oh well.

There's a saying "If it it ain't broke, don't fix it." So who's idea it was to fix a perfectly good running clinic?

Gee, oh owie owies. Hope you get that knee fixed in a hurry. !!

    Bless

Ow, ow, and owie! Hope it heals in a decent amount of time. And you mean to tell me I could have just used a bag of pizza rolls instead of wasting $3 each on ice bags? Dang, that would have been handier a few weeks ago when my knee went out, rather than limping around the grocery store.
