I baked the pies yesterday so I would not have that to do today, and because of that I let myself sleep in a little bit this morning. Before going to bed last night I assembled my recipes (OK, only two recipes, crock pot scalloped potatoes and a NON-green bean casserole recipe). I went to sleep confident that today would go without a hitch.
I got up at a leisurely 9:00, took care of some financial things for about an hour, and then headed to the kitchen to measure out various ingredients.
Imagine my horror when I discovered I was missing about half of the ingredients I needed. The container of what I thought was sour cream in the fridge turned out to be cottage cheese. The kids had used up the shredded cheese I bought for today making omelets for breakfast the last few days. We were completely out of milk. The salad fodder was…yucky to say the least. The container of whip cream I got for the jell-o salad had mysteriously disappeared from the fridge, and appeared empty in the recycle bin (at least they recycled it!).
I threw a list together, dragged #3 out to the car with me and off to the store we went. I don’t think I’ve ever done as fast of a whirlwind grocery shopping trip before in my life.
Now, it’s a little after 3. I’ve got everything where it needs to be in the grand scheme of cooking, I’m unable to get in touch with my folks (not unusual), and have no idea when they will be here (again, not unusual), timers are set, the dog is distracted with a rawhide, and I’m watching my poor Seahawks get stomped by the Cowboys. I'm sure this makes WA happy (right Bobbi?).
Hopefully the Seahawks will turn it around in the second half.
The strangest part of today, by far, is the absence of Hubby and #2. Hubby, of course, is over playing in the sandbox. #2 is spending Thanksgiving with his girlfriend’s family. In exchange she will be coming with us on Saturday to our “Big Family Thanksgiving Dinner” down at my folks house, as is #1’s girlfriend. Hopefully they aren’t too overwhelmed by my folks and my brothers’ family.
OK, the ham is calling to be taken out of the oven. I’m off.
