Fathers Day
Sun Jun 15 2008

Ok, so technically today is Tuesday the 17th, not Sunday the 15th, but here is my Fathers Day entry nonetheless.

Sunny skies and warm weather defined Fathers Day this year, and the first order of business for the day was a trip to Home Depot so #1 could buy Hubby a Fathers Day gift. #1 gave Hubby the invitation to “Choose WHATEVER you want (as long as it’s under $40)!”

Hubby chose a soft-side tool bag he has been eyeing for a while.

From there we hit a nursery to get the apple tree he has been wanting ever since we put the other fruit trees in the back yard. Hubby wanted any-old apple tree, I wanted a Gravenstein, so we ended up finding a beautiful and very sturdy one, which we were told was a Red Gravenstein. It should play well with the other apple tree planted nearby when it comes time for pollination in the spring.

#2’s give to his Dad was to dig the hole for the tree. This may now sound like much, but we live in what is known as a glacial plain, even though the glacier passed through here a gazillion years ago or so (OK, ok, maybe not a Gazillion years ago, but you get my drift). This means that our ground is EXTREMELY rocky. We have some rocks that were dug up when building the fence that are the size of medium sized dogs. So this was a BIG gift to give his Dad.

The tree got planted, the fruits & veggies in the yard watered, and we finished up everything about 4:00 or so.

I asked Hubby what he wanted to dinner, and his response was that he was so tired he didn’t care. He just wanted food to appear. So I ordered pizza. When we found out that Pizza Hut also has lasagna, we added that to the delivery order.

All-in-all Fathers Day this year was a sound success!

It's nice when people get exactly what they want, or are very pleased with their gifts :)
