YIPPIE!!

Beautiful weather today gave me the opportunity to do almost everything I wanted to do yesterday. I did discover that I need to “harvest” my compost bin and get more compost before I put in the veggies I wanted to put in yesterday. Unfortunately that has to wait until after I get paid on Friday. We did get the corn and sunflowers into the new garden area. The onions, lettuce and radish were planted into one of the old beds, and a small trellis and lemon cukes went into the other bed. That bed will be host to pumpkins next month.

This morning #1, #2 and I started the day out at the farmers market. It is the first weekend of the season for the market, so it was slim pickins. We went away with scones and the hope to come back next Saturday (which is the more active day for the market) to check out tomato plants and berry vines (rumor has it one vendor who is only there on Saturdays has Tayberry vines for sale).

A couple days ago, there was a cooking segment on one of my shows and I just HAD to make what they showed. It was one of the many varieties of smashed potatoes, topped with braised greens (with balsamic vinegar, pine nuts, prosciutto and minced garlic), topped with pan seared halibut (I used cod as I refused to pay what the store was asking for halibut) topped with basil pesto, and garnished with cherry tomatoes sautéed with minced garlic and basil pesto. I’ve already e-mailed the recipe to some friends. Anyone else who wants it is welcome to it. Just leave your e-mail in a comment and I’ll send it to you.

OK, the melatonin is starting to kick in and my brain is turning to Jell-O, time to go to bed!

Have you read lately that the UN or some other such entity is encouraging more developing countries where food shortages are a problem, to grow potatoes?

Good move I'd say. Way easier to deal with than grains or rice....

    Smash those potatoes!!!
