Lessons in Studying
Tue Nov 13 2007

I've got a test in Algebra planned for the twins for tomorrow. In light of that, the kids lesson for today is to study. I gave them the requirements of what they need to review, and assigned review exercises for them to complete. Basically, I'm teaching them how to study for a math test.

Some of you out there might think this odd, but I clearly remember when I went away to college in 19(something) at the ripe old age of 18, I had no idea how to REALLY study for a test. All my classes in high school were easy enough that I could maintain a a B average with little, or no studying. Spanish was the most difficult class I had, and even that wasn't very hard.

So, I'm making sure that my kids don't have that problem. Of course showing them how to study will not guarantee that they will actually study, but I don't want them to have any excuses other than their own actions when the time comes for them to start college.

Ok, I need to go find my whip so I can crack it at the kids...

Better keep the whip in plain sight.

Some people just know how to take a test. Others have all the info but just can't bring it up when faced with a test paper. I never felt the need to "study" for a test, because if I didn't have it by then, "studying" wasn't going to do any good. I could check some class notes, but that would be the extent of it. That's not saying I aced the exams!!!
