Last Night and This Morning
Mon Oct 15 2007

After carefully planning a healthy fish, salad and rice dinner last night, the time came to fix dinner so I called and ordered pizza.

Yeah, I wasn't quite in the cooking mode last night.

I did have #2 bake the apple cake recipe I got from I'm Not Lisa yesterday. We modified it a bit, using cherry pie and apple pie filling instead of just apple pie. #2 also got more than a little carried away with the walnuts, but thankfully it did not result in a mouthful of canker-sores for me today (as usually happens when I eat more than one or two walnut pieces).

The results? YUMMY!!!!!!!

I made the mistake of disappearing upstairs to have a half-hour or so of ME time after Hubby got home, and when I came back downstairs half of the cake was gone. I would say offhand, that it is a success.

For a variety of reasons, I've been up late every night for about the past week, and up rather early. The result is a very tired Allimom.

While we have to do home-schooling this morning, I'm thinking about going back to bed after #3 gets out the door for school. This way, the twins can get some extra sleep time this morning too. There is more than one reason for this. The obvious reason is that I'm tired and I want to catch some extra z's. The not-so-obvious reason? We've decided that #2 DEFINITELY needs to be back on ADHD meds, but his doc appointment isn't until the 24th. Keeping him on-track while schooling is difficult, so... if I can't have a medicated #2, I at least want a well-rested #2.

I am pseudo-medicating him with coffee and Mt. Dew, but it's just not quite enough. After about 45 minutes of trying to do the assignments, he's bouncing off the walls and furniture. Literally. He sits and does the work quietly at first, but after about 15 minutes he starts vibrating. Yes, vibrating. That is about the point where #1 moves to another location to avoid the earthquake-like disruption to his own studies.

I think today I may have #2 take breaks every half-hour, and have him jog on the treadmill for about 15 minutes before sitting down for the rest of his lessons.

If this doesn't work, I may have to contact my doc to see about getting some valium to get myself through these lessons.

Too bad the Valium doesn't work on #2. One of "my girls" gets hyper on sweets, and of course, that's what she wants. I try to get her to eat something like cheese instead of ice cream. I sympathize with you about the bouncing off the walls.

    Courage, Mom.

This may sound silly, but when I studied child development and learned about ADD ADHD experts adviced teachers putting a child who can not sit still in to a rocking chair while they work on school work. Basically they said in order for a kid with this disability to learn they HAVE to move. If they are not allowed to move they can not consintrate on learing. Because it takes all their consintration to keep from moving. So having a rocking chair with a lap tray for papers etc. is a acceptable way for those kids to move while learning.

Ok, this is going to sound wierd, but have you tried the Rock Star Energy drink.

To my utter dismay, N used to chug a can before school. If I drank the stuff I'm sure it would send me into a case of the mega-jitters, but he claimed it helped him consentrate. I have to admit he did do better in school after he started drinking it.

Oh girl, you made me laugh aloud at the thought of a vibrating teen! *giggles* I do feel for you though. It's all just too much! Lord give you the strength!

Your cake/pie thing sounded good and I'm glad it was a hit. Enjoy your extra z's; I know I could use some of those.
