Someday...
Thu Sep 13 2007

I live in a family of milk drinkers; avid ones. My family goes through a gallon or more of milk each day. There are 5 of us, so that may not seem too unreasonable, but we go through this much milk a day, and I very seldom drink milk.

It’s not that I don’t like milk. On the contrary, I enjoy a nice cold glass of milk whenever I have the opportunity to have one. I don’t at home very often.

Why you ask? I can’t afford it.

I can barely afford to keep milk in the fridge for Hubby and the kids. Were I to have a couple of glasses of milk a day, we would have many mornings when the kids wouldn’t get breakfast. #3, and to a lesser degree #1 and #2, LOVE to have cereal for breakfast. If we don’t have milk, #3 refuses to eat breakfast. Toast just isn’t good enough for him for breakfast (although it is fine for a snack).

This is one of the many reasons I’m looking forward to the kids being out of the house. I can’t wait to wake up in the morning and have a nice tall glass of cold milk with my toast. I can’t wait to have a glass of milk to dunk cookies in whenever we have cookies. I can’t wait to wash down waffles or French toast with a nice cold glass of milk.

Someday…

It will probably happen around the time that I clean the house, and it stays that way for more than an hour.

    *laffs*

R eats cereal every morning so we buy it by the half gallon every week and it's almost $3 for that little amount! And it seems to go up in price by the week!

I, myself, LOVE milk and would drink probably as much as your kids combined but I'm lactose intolerant *sigh*.

Like most of us who are intolerant, I can stand a certain amount of dairy per week without having problems so I reserve my splurges for cheese, which I adore almost as much as milk but every so often I HAVE to have a glass of really, really cold milk, usually with a peanut butter sandwich *sigh*. This I limit to about 3 times per year *HEAVY sigh*.

I guess it's a good thing that I don't really like ice cream, yes?????

Yup, we go through a fair bit of milk here too. At least the kids are drinking milk and not horrible, sugary soft drinks, or more expensive fruit juice? :)

Aww, gee. Wish I lived next door. I'd invite you over for a nice, cold, tall glass of milk. I love milk, too.

    Bless

At the peak of the milk drinking days around here (all five kids at home) Mark and kids could go thru two gallons a day easy and another one overnight. It always made me wonder if they had straws that reached to the frig from their rooms.
