She had a surgery called cryopexy, where the doc used a freezing cold tool to freeze the back wall of the eye behind the tears, which is supposed to stimulate scar formations to seal the edges of the tear. Following this they injected a gas bubble into her eye, which is supposed to press the detached retina against the back wall to seal the tear.
We take her back on Monday where they will look to see if these measures have been successful. If it is working, Mom should be able to go home as early as next Friday. She can’t fly, so Dad has been scoping out what all ferry options are available.
If this procedure hasn’t worked, they will be discussing other surgical options she has. We will wait to see what happens then.
Meanwhile, part of her recovery instructions is for her to stay reclined on her right side so the gas bubble will be in the correct position for the eye to heal. We have my bedroom and the couch set up to keep her comfortable, and keep boys at the home to wait on her hand and foot when Dad and I have to leave the house.
She is doing well today, camped on the couch watching quilting shows and resting. Dad and I are getting ready to go hit a produce stand in search of cherries and boysenberries. Yummy!
