Weekend Stuffage
Sat Jun 16 2007

This week went by in a flash, it’s hard to believe it’s the weekend already!

Talked with Mombo earlier today, the twins are doing well. Mombo got to go home a few days ago, and she and Dadbo coordinate their day to spend the time they are allowed with the babies. Dadbo’s family is in town also, so they sound quite busy this week!

While I’m eager to see the babies, it’s more important right now for Mombo and Dadbo to acclimate to being new parents and juggle their daily schedules until they settle into a routine.

Tomorrow is Father’s Day, and I had originally bought him one Father’s Day oriented t-shirt, but returned it after I saw a more perfect t-shirt for him. I wanted to go the power tool route for him this weekend, but the thought of it made my check-book scream in agony, so we went with the t-shirt option.

#1 has a Farmers Market in our town that he volunteers with every Saturday. He got approval for this to be used for his required 20 hours of community service he is required to do for his school. In order to graduate, the kids have several requirements that weren’t around when I was in school. They have the 20 hours of community service, they are also required to do a job shadow and write up a paper on it and give a presentation on it to their class. There are a few other things they have to do during their senior year, that they have already started grumbling about.

Last week while at the Farmers Market, #1 saw some giant marigolds he knew I would love so he bought them for me. I do love them, and they are now out in the corners of my veggie garden. I read somewhere many years ago that there are some critters that don’t like marigolds, so planting them in your garden would help to keep those creepy-crawlers out of the garden. I just wish I could find something that repels earwigs, then I’d be set!

Hubby and #2 had a Civil Air Patrol version of Marco Polo today. They hide a doohickey out in the boonies, the doohickey beeps and they pretend it’s a plane sending out the signal and go find it. Think geocaching with out a treat inside the box and you’re on the right track.

OK, Little People, Big World is on now, time to go!

Never heard of community service when I was in high school. Or even in college. Well, there's nothing like a busy weekend to keep the kids out of trouble. Eh?

I think Marigolds do repell earwigs but they have to be planted all along the edge of the garden to create the barrier. Also I just saw on Gardening By The Yard yesterday that if you take newspaper and roll it up loosly, place a rubberband around it to hold it together and then lay it down in your garden then in the heat of the day earwigs will crawl inside the newspaper roll to keep cool. Then you just have to pick up the newspaper and get rid of it each afternoon before it gets cooler while they are still in there. Also 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp insecticdal soap, 1 tsp insecticidal oil with one quart water, mix and spray on and UNDER plant leaves will keep most bugs away.
