The Snow Conspiracy
Tue Jan 16 2007

I’m convinced of it.  The school district is in league with evil forces, all combining their strengths in an effort to prevent me from doing my homework.

How else would you explain the minute trace of snow we have today, resulting in the schools being closed AGAIN.  School has been out for a week now due to snow and ice.  Today’s snow is predicted to barely last until mid-morning, at which time it is supposed to warm up, start raining, and melt any and all existing ice and snow.

Yet they still cancelled school.

#3 had an orthodontist appointment this morning at 8, I drove him to it with no problems at all on the roads.

I’ll be shuttling #2 to his girlfriends later this morning (which reminds me, I need gas in the car so I must remember to stop and do that while I’m out), and my neighbor has generously offered to let #1 come over and hang out for a few hours today.

At least I will be able to get some homework done while I’ve got the house emptied of all but #3 later today.  I should also remember to stop and get flowers for my neighbor to say thanks for letting #1 come over.  If we weren’t dieting I’d get her chocolate, but flowers are much more Weight Watchers friendly!

You should see it here. We have at least 3 inches here right now. Peter tried to drive to work this morning and had to turn around and come back home. Then everything will freeze tonight so we are not going to be going anyplace tomorrow morning either. Thank goodness the rest of the week is supposed to warm up and dry out.

You forget until you need one. But a good neighbor neighbor is a blessing.

Rain a-plenty the school district can handle. A flutter of snow, and the whole system falls apart. Well, that's Washington. Except the Eastern portion. They do snow pretty well.

Our district announced closure early, but in Portland and Beaverton they didn't until the kids were already enroute or at school thus causing no end of problems for students and parents alike.

Since we got another 2-3 inches today I suspect the boys will be home tomorrow as well. I can honestly say I am now ready for spring.... or at least good old fashioned rain...... whatever it takes to restore school to full time days once again.

I may be late in responding, but I have to say that I SO FEEL YOUR PAIN! Every time I file a State Tax Return (with a check attached to pay the difference, thank you very much) I get very ANNOYED with the "Every Wednesday Early Release" Thing (not to mention the additional $70 they expect me to fork out for every Teacher "In-Service Day" or "Parent-Teacher Conference Day." Whenever they call a "Snow Day" they subtract from their exceedingly GENEROUS calendar of "days off from school."

I had to remind my Boss today that the reason why I NEVER have "Use or Lose" Leave at the end of the year is because I have to Take Leave at the mercy of the Public School Calendar the REST of the year.

    Yeah, I know. I'm SUCH a whine-bag...

I may have an explanation - the school powers that be may all be from the south and therefore are stricken with terror at the thought of having to drive in such a blizzard as you have described. It's the only logical thing I can think of. ;o)
