On My To-Do List
Tue Dec 12 2006

I really must learn to knit. I enjoy crocheting, but there are a LOT of patterns I want to try my hand at, and they are all knitting projects.

Oh, I’m sure there is a crocheting translation, but it likely won’t look the same, and I want the projects to look the way they do in the pictures. I realize it may take me doing the projects 8 or 10 times until they do actually resemble the pictures, but I’m willing to do that.

This will have to wait until after graduation though, I don’t have time for any new learning projects until the middle of March if I expect to keep my sanity.

Oh, and thanks to Yetzirah for turning me onto Patternworks. It's safe to say I'm a budding addict.

It took me a while to take the knitting plunge and I'm really glad I did. I do both (as you know of course) and there truly are projects that are better in one than the other. It opens up so many more doors for you when you learn both. I've got links to share when you're ready.

Patternworks is evil, but in a good way. lol

My mother tried to teach me to knit. Needless to say it was a disaster. You know how most new knitters drop stitches? I'm probably the only one in history who ADDED stitches *sigh*.

My Grandmonster taught me to crochet a straight line thingy which I did quite well but because she thought I was the spawn of Satan and unworthy of such a ladylike passtime refused to teach me more.

So I took up carpentry *shrugs*. Works for me.

I tired crocheting once and liked it. But of course, the cats couldn't stop playing with the yarn, so I gave it up. Wish I could do it like my grandmother used to, the really tiny intricate stuff that just came out beautifully. Heck, I'd love to be able to make anything like she used to.

RYC: Enlisting the aid of a friend isn't practical, but the spray gun idea surely is. I have a spray bottle that I use when she's into something she knows she's not supposed to be. Defiant little critter, she is! Maybe I'll just keep the spray bottle at hand and use it as a deterrent. Might work. It's worth a try!
