Last night was…interesting. The kids across the street, knowing that they are being evicted, had an eviction party. I’d estimate that at the height of the party there were about 40 people there, but at any given time maybe only 20 or 30. Most of the party guests were guys, and apparently the bathrooms were not working as they only seemed to urinate off the front porch all evening.
We had been covertly watching them all evening, nervous about the group of youths getting drunker and drunker and we finally called 911 around 11:30 to complain about the noise. At this point the party had woken up #1 and was keeping Hubby and I awake. We didn’t see any response from the police and a little after midnight called 911 again after we had to chase a couple of the party guests off our property. They had come across the street, into our yard and up onto our porch to mess around with our Halloween decorations.
We saw no response to the second call, and shortly after 1 we called 911 again to complain about the noise when the party woke up #2, whose bedroom is at the back of the house.
Shortly before 2 we called again when one of the party guests ran up onto our porch and tried to steal our big inflatable ghost. He was thwarted however by the weights we have tied to Ghostie to keep him from blowing away on a windy day. When the kid grabbed it and ran, one of the weights flew out after him, hitting him in the back of the leg before thumping into the ground creating a divot in the grass.
Mind you, all of this happened while we sat with the front curtains open watching the kids. They knew we were watching them and they tried this stunt anyway. The kid who did it started out “casually” walking up the street, and then sneaking back to our house along the front and dashing across the front to grab the ghost and run. We thought something was fishy about his behavior, so Hubby had moved to another window to try to get a better view of the direction the kid had walked to. When I saw him run and grab it I dashed out the front door to go after him. A majority of the party guests were standing on the front porch of the house laughing at the situation, yelling out that they weren’t part of it and they didn’t even know who the guy was.
Yeah, right.
The police were called again, and finally showed up almost three hours after the first call.
This is when we found out that in our county, the police will not respond to one call on a disturbance. There has to be a minimum of three calls from three different residents before they will respond. We‘re sharing this information with our neighbors in the case we need to do this again in the future.
Boy do I hope tonight is quieter!
