I've Got Berries Coming Out Of My Ears!
Mon Jul 10 2006

I took #1 and #3 down to Ryderwood with me today, our mission was to return all the laundry items we brought home with us the other day, and finish harvesting and pruning the raspberries. Five hours is what it took to get it done. I had a little help on and off from the boys, but #1 had brought homework with him and worked on it on and off, and #3 spent most of the time hiding indoors from the bees that were everywhere.

Not that I blame him, he got stung by a couple bees about two weeks ago, and judging from the reaction I suspect he is allergic to bee stings and other bug bites. I’m waiting for a doctor appointment to talk with the doc about it. #3 had two bug bites (mosquito is the suspect, but we don’t know for sure) on one of his calves, and that calf has swollen up to almost twice the size of his other calf.

OK, so we got the raspberries harvested and pruned. We drove home and as I was walking through the yard I noticed that there were so many berries on my blueberry bush that I could hardly see the leaves or branches. So I picked all my ripe blueberries.

I feel like all I’ve done today is pick berries. That’s not bad, but I would have liked to get a few other things done too!

OK, my melatonin is finally starting to kick in so I’m going to mosey up to bed. I have to take #1 & #2 to school tomorrow for a couple hours. They have summer school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to prepare themselves to retake the state test in August. Hopefully they will pass this time!

We did the melatonin last night too....
It sure does work nicely, and no morning side effects.

    Berries berries everywhere.

I thought blueberries grew in marshy areas. Tells you how much I know about it.

Sounds like #3 is allergic to insect bites. Better have an antihist available at all times. I can tell you from experience that allergic reaction can go from terrible to o-m-g! in a very short time.

The blackberries aren't ripe yet here though I checked the bramble at Rose's on Saturday. I can't wait for some blackberry cobbler!

I sympathise with the boys. I remember as a kid we had cherry trees and my mom would make me climb the tree to pick them and I hated absolutely second of it!! The juice would run all the way to my armpits and the bees would come swarming, lol.

Enjoy the fresh berry harvest and the canning that I know is sure to follow!

You win, you win!! ACK to the extreme!! I'd have moved out of the house super-fast if I'd seen that thing in my kitchen. No, I haven't put my feet down yet! *shudder*
