This left me speechless. I like to think that I would respond in a situation like this, but after viewing this I can't help but wonder. Have we become a society that would stand by and let this happen?

- From:Yetzirah (Legacy)On:Wed Jun 14 2006Ummm, I hope I'm wrong, but it seems to me that suburban New York is not the best test of this kind of thing. Try it in a small town in Nebraska. And to tell you the truth, it would have had more of an impact if they had done the same test in about 10 different places in the US. Now THAT is a report I would not mind seeing.
It might be more informative.
But that's just me.
- From:Welshamethyst (Legacy)On:Wed Jun 14 2006I cannot believe what I saw in that video! It's just indicative of how far we've digressed as a society that people would walk by and not try to do anything. It's beyond sad, it's scary
- From:DancingButterfly (Legacy)On:Wed Jun 14 2006Like Yetzirah, it would be better if they repeated that test in other places as well, not just New York. I've heard that in NY and LA that you do NOT make eye contact with anyone else lest you get beaten up.
In a small town where everyone knows everyone, I think people WOULD interfere.
Also, it's hard to tell. People probably think that guy is her father and she's just throwing a tantrum. And you can't use family likeness anymore with the myriad of step-families, adoption, fostering, etc.
I think we need to teach our children different strategies. "Fire" or something else instead of "help", etc.
It's very sad in this day and age when good samaritans get shot or beaten for trying to help someone, so everyone becomes apathetic.
Very heartbreaking...
