This is a patch that is about 20’ x 20’, and I discovered that unlike blackberries, strawberries evidently don’t flourish under neglectful conditions. I think there may have been 6 or 7 plants in the whole patch that weren’t dead. Hubby and I decided to till the whole garden and put something else in, like corn or something we could harvest later in the summer when we are planning to have a mini-family reunion down at the property.
That was when we discovered the tiller didn’t work, bummer.
So, now Hubby and I are talking about the possibility of buying a new tiller with some money that Mom sent down, not anything grandiose, something small and manageable that can be used around the property, or that my bro and I could borrow and take to our house for a quick weekend job.
We kept the kids busy this weekend by handing them each a machete and having them go eradicate the scotch broom from the property. They had a BLAST, and the best part of the whole thing? They didn’t realize that it was work!
There was something about the weekend that we all would like to have a rewind button so we wouldn’t have to go through it again, and that is Saturday night. We went to a town a short drive down the freeway for a couple hours to grab some dinner and take the kids to go see Mission Impossible 3 as a reward for their hard work. While we were gone Indigo was sick. We will be heading back down next weekend with a carpet shampooer to clean up what we were unable to get clean with paper towels and some all-purpose cleaner. We will also be taking some paint with us as we cannot get some of the stains that were a result of her illness off the walls in one of the bedrooms.
Oh well, the room needed to be painted anyway…
