Morning Meanderings of a Muddled Mind
Tue Mar 21 2006

I want to go back to bed. I’m not going to, but I want to.

I called to get a same day appointment for #2 today; usually these are first thing in the morning so I kept him home from school in anticipation of rushing off to the appointment. Such was not the case with today; his appointment is at 1:30, so I need to take him to school. I may take a nap when I get home. It depends on how truly awake I am when I get back. If I’m truly awake I’ll probably pickle the rest of the asparagus, if not I’m SO going to take a nap.

Either way I suspect today will be a high caffeine intake day. I just don't know when I will be starting to consume it; now or later? Maybe both. With as wiped out as I am I could probably drink a quad shot espresso and still sleep for a couple hours.

OK, maybe not a quad shot.

I’ve got my English class tonight at 5, so I’ll be leaving the house around 4:30 or so. Because of that I’ll probably fix dinner really early. Hubby won’t be home when dinner is ready, but he will at least have a home cooked meal.

I still feel fairly rotten, better than yesterday but definitely not 100%. Boy do I hope this thing gets over fairly quickly. I’m sick of being sick!

A Thought...

I've been thinking the last couple days about what can be done with Shelby to give her more aggressive exercise than she is already getting. I know, without a doubt, that a lot of her behavior is due to her current activity level (or lack thereof). She needs something more than walks with me and short runs with the kids in the afternoons.

The kids are what gave me the idea. #1 doesn't like to run. At all. I think were there to be a fire he would walk rapidly, but I've little doubt that he wouldn't run if he could avoid it. Because of this, he has started "running" Shelby while riding his bike.

I think I may plot out a route that is between 3 and 5 miles, and when I feel healthier take her for a run along side my bike for that distance.

This won't be anything I do in the very near future as I can't walk a half a block much less ride much further than that without being overcome with a coughing fit enough to feel like I will see a lung at the end of the fit. No, I definitely need to have a better respiratory health than I have now before I do that. I also need to start walking my bike with her on the walks to get her more accustomed to how to move along side a bike. I’ve had an accident with a dog before while riding a bike when the dog didn’t know much about it. I don’t care to repeat that experience!

If I can do that with her in the mornings, get the kids to take her for a run after school, and convince Hubby to take his daily run at home in the evenings and have Shelby be his partner in that, we might approach getting her as much exercise as she needs daily.

Maybe.

Wouldn't it be nice to close the draperies, lock the doors, turn off the phone, and go to bed? No kids, no classes, no asparagus to pickle. Just the nice, warm, inviting bed. Aaaahh!

But it is not to bed. Duty calls.

    Shalom

Not being a drinker of Coffee (or Cola) the idea that caffine can keep us awake is totally lost on me.

I must be a minority - eeeeveryone drinks coffee :o)

I hope you feel better soon! The bugs going around this year are truly awesome and leave those of us who've suffered from them wiped out for weeks on end.

Regarding your comment, I DO know how frustrating it is to have a destructive puppy. 'Pie has eaten cell phones, shoes, antiques, you name it she's consumed it and usually right under my nose. I vividly remember dog sitting for a friend years back who had a lab. I got there to pick her up (my friend had left earlier in the day) to find that the dog had eaten her mattress *bangs head*. I almost asked if she wanted cheese on that.

Some breeds tend to be a tad more hard headed than others and from experience in the vet clinic I am afraid that Brittany's fall in that catagory because they are high energy dogs bred through the ages for strenuous hunting. Likewise, Golden's, while terribly smart, are quite a handful the first couple of years.

*sigh*. I wish there were easy answers but, alas, there are not.

Sounds like a good way to wear her out. I've seen dogs running alongside a bike, but I've never observed an accident. On thinking about it, I can see the problem.

You have my deepest sympathy on the cough. I share your misery. I've tried to cough up a lung. And been surprised when the lung stayed in place.

    Hope you get well soon.

    Shalom

    Might work.

Funny, just yesterday I was walking Sunny on the leash, knowing she would like to run and I wondered if I could manage to learn to use those tennis shoes with the little wheels in the heels... They look like fun. But I am so clutzy... But it DID run through my mind....;-)
