It turned out very interesting. #1 has VERY dark brown (almost black) hair, and he really should have done two applications of the bleach to help avoid the Bozo the Clown Red look, but it didn't go as orange as I thought it might've. It still could have used a second application though. The green came out ... very bright. It will wash out in a couple days, hopefully I can find the permanent stuff before then.
Part of my willingness to let him do this was his wanting to get his hair cut before doing it. He is so difficult to get into any of the shops to get a trim, that I was willing to do this since he was actually eager to go get it cut first. Besides, having green hair is so mild compared to what he might otherwise be wanting to do. Personally I won't let him get a tattoo, and I am relieved he wasn't asking to get any one of many places on his body pierced. With those in mind, I'm OK on him having green or any other color hair.
OK, I will admit it. There are reasons I'm very open minded about my son having green hair.
In my mis-spent youth, I did have green hair my senior year, but it was accidental. I didn't know the PH in the pool was out of whack and I spent much of the summer and early fall in the pool. The result... green hair about the color of the needles on a fir tree.
But that is not the reason behind my open mindedness. Fuchsia plum was the color I chose in my wild years. I had part of my hair bleached, and left the rest my natural brown. I put the rinse in and it gave the brown areas a pink-tinged mahogany look, and the bleached area looked about the color of the bottle. I did this for several years, but those days of pink coloring came to a screeching halt when I entered the Air Force. Uncle Sam likes his sons and daughters to have natural colored hair, and no matter how fast I talked I couldn’t convince any of my supervisors that shocking pink was a natural hair color.
Go figure.
