Job Requirements
Sat Mar 11 2006

This is the best title I could think of, and it does fit. Just not in the way that most people think of it.

The twins both want to get their learners permits for driving, and get jobs. Hubby and I made some rules about these things a couple years ago, and made it clear that if the requirements weren’t met, the kids didn’t get to do whichever one they wanted.

For driving, the kids have to have a 3.0 grade point average, with no individual grade below a C. #1 has missed this with 2 C-‘s on the last couple report cards. For getting a job, they have to have a 2.0 GPA with no individual grade below a C. #1 met this requirement with flying colors on the last report card. So, his job search has begun. He has filled out applications at a couple places, gotten a bus schedule so he can find a way to and from work (a monthly ticket will cost him $27 and give him unlimited bus transportation) and now is waiting for a call for an interview. He gets extremely excited whenever the phone rings, being certain that it will be one of the places he left an application at. He hasn’t gotten any calls yet, but it has only been a week since dropping off the first application.

#2 is jealous. A D and a C- is keeping him from this goal, and he is determined to bring his grades up for the next report card. If he is working as hard towards this goal as he says he is, he should meet it. We will find out in about a month and a half.

#3 is oblivious to this whole thing. He tends to focus on his cartoons and ignore his brothers most of the time. It should be interesting when he is old enough to become aware of these kind of things.

What a fantastic way to motivate them! Also, you don't want them working and driving to the detriment of their studies, so it's good that they have to show that they can achieve goals.
You're an inspiration for how I'll deal with my kids as they get older :)
