I haven't heard from my family in Texas today, so we're waiting until things settle down for them weather wise before we try to get in touch with them. They do remain in our prayers.
I drug Hubby out of bed yesterday and went out looking at cars. He was feeling under the weather, but I wanted to go look at some cars we saw at the fair. We had talked about trading the van in on something more efficient that would still fit the family. We looked at the Mitsubishi Gallant (which I would have liked more had it offered a hatch back option), the PT Cruiser and the Chevy Malibu Maxx. With all the deals Chevy had going right now we were really leaning towards the Chevy, but decided to wait another year before doing anything.
Our decision was more based on the desire Hubby and I both have right now to take another Disney vacation in the next year before the twins are at the age where they are embarrassed to be seen with us. If we had a car payment, we couldn't do that.
Besides, this gives us another year to look at all the other vehicular options we should consider. I'd like to check out some of the Pontiac cars currently on the market, as well as some of the Japanese, German and Korean vehicles.
Right now, we are spending in gas for the van each month what a low end car payment would be. However, I always have the option to not drive and save a few pennies, whereas a car payment wouldn't be an optional expense. We do want to do something though. That thing is such an awful gas hog, and handles about what a pregnant humpback whale would on the road, that I can't wait to get rid of it and get into something smaller with better gase mileage.
Hubby has taken the day to disappear to the library and get some educational stuff done. He has a course he is taking with the military that he needs to test on in the near future. Between Shelby and the boys, our house is not a good place to try and concentrate on anything for more than about 10 minutes at a time. If he gets everything done today though, we will get him all day tomorrow without interruption. We need to get the yard winterized, and we would like to have some family time this weekend. He has to work next weekend, and I have a sneaky suspicion he may have a trip coming up that he hasn't mentioned to me sometime in October. I need to get as much time in with him as I can while I've got him home!
I suppose I could just keep him tied up in the bedroom for a few days. I know he wouldn't mind...

- From:Toxicepiphany (Legacy)On:Sat Sep 24 2005We have a PT Cuiser of our own, and my mom likes it a lot. It's got room to spare (holds as much, if not more, than our Jeep Liberty), especially if you need to take the back seats out. I'm driving it right now because my car was broken and we haven't gotten to swap it yet. I personally don't like ours, probably because I'm still not used to it (going from a little ZX2 to this thing feels like a bus with a 4cyl engine). But, it's not bad, it gets decent gas mileage, and our Britt hasn't torn it up yet. :o) My mom wasn't even sure she wanted it at first, but after we bought it, she really likes it. (It's just not for me-I need the little 4-banger sporty car lol).
- From:Kaliko88 (Legacy)On:Sun Sep 25 2005Well, you are at least one up on me by having a dog instead of a cat. Shelby won't jump on the desk and sit in front of the monitor. *heehee*
Ah well, our pets do keep us sane most of the time.
