Hubby was very much surprised by his new pup, and within seconds she had him wrapped around her little paw. I think she will definitely be a Daddy's Girl. #2 is doing everything he can though, to get her to bond with him. Right now he has the advantage as Hubby is at work this weekend. He will lose the advantage tomorrow when he goes back to school.
So far, the only thing Hubby hasn't loved about her was the first night in her new home. Top this off with her being 10 weeks old and we were up every 2 hours last night to potty her. We are also crate training her, so she was rather vocal for the first few minutes of being put back into the crate after each time we took her outside to do her business.
I think Hubby wouldn't have been as grumpy about her first night had he not had to work today.
Her schedule should even out after a couple days. I will be tired and rather grumpy until then as I am the one who primarily takes her out at night. Oh, don't get me wrong, Hubby will be doing some of the taking out. Usually when I'm too tired to move when the time comes up and I verbalize to him that it is his turn.
With this being the case, and with me being the only one home with her all day (except the weekends) there is no doubt in my mind that even though she was Hubby's birthday present, she will be my dog. The kids and Hubby will engage in activities to try to garner her attention and affection away from me. Since I'm the one who will be walking her most days, and probably doing most of the training with her, I will be alpha of our pack.
Indigo has resigned herself to the new addition to the family. She doesn't necessarily like it right now, but I've caught her in a moment or two with the pup and her tail was wagging and she didn't look like she completely hated it. I'm sure as Shelby gets a little older and a bit bigger, Indigo will warm to her more.
