Disguise, a practice in Mullerian Mimicry

I was out taking pictures of my veggies today

When a movement among my marigolds caught my eye. I got all excited at first thinking I had spotted my first Monarch for the season.

But the closer I looked

I realized

It was just a moth in disguise

Oh well, it was pretty nonetheless!

I don't suppose anyone out there in DD Land knows what kind of moth this is?

I have never seen such a colorful moth myself. But a moth it is!

    Your garden looks very happy!

What a lovely garden you have! And that's a very pretty moth.

We have monarch butterflies, too. They're well-travelled creatures.

Hmmm... seeing those pictures I think I need to write down why I think I don't care for marigolds. Just beautiful!!

One of the baits I have is boric acid in some liquid. Will the cat and dog get sick if I put it on my carpet (like the powder stuff).

My cat actually deals with the spiders which trap the lady bugs and skeeters so I don't mind them as much. I can't believe how lazy the cat and dog are. They sit there and watch the ants walking in front of them and do nothing.

I think the liquid is mostly boric acid and just some liquidy stuff to make it seem cool. We'll see.

I'm so not a flea person either. We had them with two cats who hated batheing. So out came the mousses and the combs. Oh that was awful. We moved into quit the cess pool there. lol

I still want to see bodies in the morning when I wake up.

Hiya! Thanks for your comment on my diary - I am used to Americans being fascinated with Australia (and all the beer!). I just wasn't in the mood last night for someone going on... and on... and on... and on... about the wonders of my city. :P

No idea what the moth is, but your marigolds are really pretty!

Don't let the wing position fool you - what you have there is a butterfly (long slender antennae and a relatively slender body are giveaway clues). You either have a Painted Lady or an American Painted Lady ... I'm pretty sure it's a regular Painted Lady, but I always get those two confused. Don't worry about the caterpillars - if it is a Painted Lady she's most likely to find a nice thistle plant to lay her eggs on.

    Lovely garden and....
    moth. lol
    Sorry, I couldnt resist.
    Anyways....
Last year I had to put out moth balls in my flower bed to keep out the squirrels. They loved digging in my garden and tearing up my flowers.
This year, they have been nicer to my garden, they have avoided it. Thank goodness.

    Love,
    Honey
