Dinner and Random Thoughts
Sat Apr 02 2005

This is a Guard weekend for Hubby, and he had one of the "out of town" folks over for dinner. We like to do this a few times a year. Have one or more of the folks over so they are not stuck in their motel room doing nothing on nights the unit does not have some type of get-together.

I ended up making pizza for the kids and feeding them early, then a real dinner (a fantastic chicken broccoli recipe I found and will be making more of in the future) for us. An evening of adult conversation was a refreshing change from our usual evenings. The kids cooperated and behaved, staying glued in front of the TV most of the time watching the Kids Choice Awards. Conversations ranged from the Pope's death to workplace antics, and not once did I have to break up an argument. It was perhaps the best evening I've had in a LONG time! I'm happy, relaxed and will readily admit that the two glasses of wine may have a lot to do with this state of mind and body.

I went around and moved all the clocks ahead already, and used this to convince the kids to go to bed early. All I did was point to the time on the clocks, and keep my mouth shut about them having been moved ahead early.

The kids have Spring Break next week. I’m hoping that I can convince Hubby (if he has time) to put up the rails on the fence so the twins can keep busy putting up the boards while he is at work during the week. With any luck, the fence will be mostly complete by next weekend and Hubby can just do the finishing touches that require power tools (which the twins are not permitted to use unsupervised by Hubby).

While it has been much needed, the almost constant rain we have had for the last week has made working in the yard an experience, to say the least. The topsoil hasn’t had time to settle down yet, so stepping on the lawn or into the beauty bark almost immediately results in the person sinking up to their ankles. Yes, we need the rain down here and the snow up in the mountains, but would a couple days of overcast but no rain at the lower elevations kill us? Oh well, I’m sure Mother Nature has a plan for all this. I just hope that snow keeps dumping in the mountains for the next few weeks so we aren’t quite so dry this summer.

I know… I know. I can’t have it both ways.
