Last night, I was getting ready to go to bed and as what I though was my final task I took Indigo out for her evening watering. It was somewhere in the vicinity of midnight, and the neighborhood was quiet as I had expected. That is, until the four police cars sped by my house towards the end of my road, sirens and lights blazing. About that time I noticed that there was a rather strong sulfur smell akin to fireworks on the 4th of July hanging in the air.
I live on a road with no thoroughfare, so seeing four police cars zoom past my house at roughly 60 MPH was cause for alarm.
I could see them up a short ways from my house, and I was dying to go snoop. It was then that I had the visual of me being a Mrs. Kravitz.
I brought Indigo back in and went upstairs with the intent of going to sleep. That is until two more police cars (this time only with lights and no sirens) and a small fire truck zoomed past the house. A few minutes later a flat bed tow truck sped by (not as fast as the others, but definitely faster than the speed limit for the road). About a minute after the tow truck went past, he quickly backed up his previous route, then just sat idling at the intersection.
Any possibility of sleep was gone at that point.
A while back I overheard some folks talking about some cities having the police scanners set up that they could be listened to/monitored over the internet. I don’t know if my city has this as I was unable to get my speakers working so I didn’t bother searching the web for it. I did spend the next 2 hours trying to get my speakers to work before I gave up and went to bed.
This morning there is no evidence of anything happening out of the ordinary last night on our street. I had hoped for crime scene tape surrounding one of the houses, but the only thing we noticed that we had never noticed before is a bunch of white stuff sprayed on the ground around one of the gas lines of one of the houses just starting construction. We don’t know if that is something new, or something we had not noticed before. I also don’t know that six police cars would respond to a gas leak, or whatever that may have been the cause of the placing of the white stuff on the ground around the gas line. We may never know.
That doesn’t stop me from being curious as to what did go on. Maybe I do have a little bit of a Mrs. Kravitz in me after all.
