51 Hours
Sun Mar 06 2005

Yep, you read that right. 51 hours. Until what, you ask? Until we get the keys to the house.

We signed away the rest of our lives day before yesterday at the escrow company, and Tuesday at 3:30 we get the keys. Let me amend that. We get the keys if they get everything fixed or replaced that we pointed out on our walk-through on Friday. Mostly everything was good to go with a few exceptions. There was a closet door that was damaged and needs to be replaced. The stove and microwave both had serious scratches in the stainless steel fronts and those will be replaced. Nobody could get the air conditioner to work, so someone will be coming out to test that. The fridge still wasn’t installed, but that is being done tomorrow. There are several paint touch-ups inside and out that need to be done, and lastly there were several dings or other slight damages to woodwork or walls throughout the house that will be fixed.

Hubby wondered if we were being too picky with some of the items we identified. For as much as we are paying for this house, I want EVERYTHING to be perfect!

The landscaping looks fantastic at the house. We have sod in the front and back, bark on the sides, three trees in the front and a handful of shrubs in front of the porch also (a couple appear to be azaleas, but I couldn’t identify the others). I was glad that after passing the word to the landscapers we did not get an arborvitae in the front (I personally don’t care for them), and we lucked out and didn’t get a rhododendron. While I like looking at Rhodies, I don’t care for them in my yard. Camellias on the other hand… I’d take as many of those as I would be able to plant!

I’ve been browsing plans for pergolas online, and have several good leads. I like this one, but would want it to extend over the entire patio. I also like this one, but I don't want it attached to the house. I like the idea of using planters as the footing for the support beams so we don't have to damage the patio or dig into the extensively rocky soil. I suspect between Hubby, myself and the various plans we find online, we will stumble across the perfect solution.

I don't think you're being picky. It's a brand new house. It should be perfect.

    Those are cool pergolas
I made a trellis once.. for my bean plants which go all over the place, worse then tomatoes..
And what a joke.. It was difficult. I had to work on training them everyday. This pergolas would be great for that
I ended up sort of stacking poles together in a teepee fashion. very fun..
    the kids thought so too
Just think .. you can do whatever you want..
    It is yours..
    JOY!!

I don't think you are being too picky. It is a whole lot easier for them to go in while it is sitting empty and fix what needs fixing than it would be for you later and for what houses cost, well you know the answer to that one. :)

..."I want to make ONE meal, and have the entire family sit down and eat it. Am I being unreasonable?"....

Nope, I'm with you. Cooking one meal is enough thank you very much. If I wanted to be a short order cook I would go get a job and at least get paid for it. LOL.

That's the way I raised my kids. Eat it or don't, up to you. And whenever I tried something new the rule was "One bite. If you don't like it OK, but you have to try one bite." Oh, and I never served them. Everyone served him/herself from the pots on the stove. And the rule was "Eat what you serve yourself," so they learned early on not to pile up their plates. Second were always permitted.

Fortunately I had a husband who was a dream to cook for.
