Now back to Fahrenheit 9/11, interesting movie. While most of what Michael Moore offers as truths in the movie, are presented in such a way that they only support his political views. What I really had a problem with was the way he offered his own opinions as supposed truths. If we are to believe what he presents to be unadulterated truth, then during the 1960’s and 1970’s, the Bush family, along with may other key political people today, planned on both father and son to be president someday, and their dealings with anyone of Mediterranean descent was obviously a member of the Bin Ladin family, whose sole purpose was to give them tons of money for no apparent reason other than to possibly incur favoritism when one of their family members attacked the US many years in the future.
I also had a problem with his statements about the current Bush and the alleged treatment of Veterans, and the supposed cut in pay and benefits to our military people. I’m not sure where he got his information, or what Mr. Moore was thinking of when he stated that our pay was proposed to be cut by 1/3. No such thing was ever suggested, and military members in combat zones are most definitely not getting pay or benefits cut. As a Veteran myself, and also a member of a current military family, we have not seen any of the supposed slights that this president is supposed to have committed against us. In fact, the opposite is true. We have more benefits, and better pay than we did while Clinton was in office. While we still are behind the curve as far as pay for members of the civilian sector, we are catching up to them.
One item in the movie I found amusing, is Mr. Moore’s ascertains that the Fox network proclaimed Bush the winner in Florida during the elections, for the sole reason that there is a Fox employee that is a cousin to George W. Bush. OK, let’s get our facts straight on that one, Fox was not the network to originally proclaim GW the winner, CBS was. Between 7:49 and 8:02, ALL networks projected Gore as the winner. It was not until around 10:00, that CBS, NOT Fox corrected the earlier mistake. Four hours later Fox reported the same. Let’s not get into the arguments about who could’ve/should’ve/would’ve won, Michael Moore would have you believe that GW’s cousin was behind a mastermind plan to brainwash all the networks into proclaiming Bush the winner with no numbers taken into account.
This is not the only erroneous item portrayed in the movie. Mr. Moore has presented many truths and half truths in such a way that they tell a story related to, but inaccurate to actual events. He has found a way to tell a lie by telling the truth.
If I am the third car sitting at a red light, and when the light turns green and no cars move forward, should someone tell me that the driver in the lead car hatched a plan ten years ago to be at this intersection on this day, and not to proceed when the light turned green for the sole purpose of inciting anger and frustration for all the people in the vehicles behind him or her, does not make it a truth. Yes it is true that we are not moving forward, but the reason behind this is not the reason suggested. This is the manner in which Mr. Moore has made his movie. He presents bits and pieces of the truth, or presents truthful items out of sequence of when they actually occurred, to paint a picture suggesting a diabolical and insidious situation that the American people supposedly allowed to happen without questioning it.
Don’t even get me started on his presentation of a supposed factual occurrence in the state of Oregon, when allegedly there are only 8 State Troopers on duty in the entire state at one time as a result of budget cuts by the Bush administration. And don’t get me started on the pipeline issue that Mr. Moore tries to insinuate was all part of the Bush family’s money grabbing techniques, when it was in fact a proposition of the Clinton administration years before.
Mr. Moore also seems to forget his own history. While condemning the Bush administration for apparent leniency towards their attempts to capture Bin Ladin, he fails to state that in December 2002 he claimed Bin Ladin may be innocent. In addition I’m outraged that Mr. Moore suggests that Saddam’s Iraq “had never murdered a single American citizen…”, excuse me? Does the name Abu Nidal mean nothing to Mr. Moore?
Fahrenheit 9/11 is an interesting movie, and it is worth watching. BUT… don’t take it at face value. Don’t take my word for it. Take the information presented, and research it yourself. Much of the information is true, but most of that is presented in such a way to tell a story other than what is accurate. Don’t passively let other people tell you information as important as what this movie presents. Find out the facts for yourself. Also, ask yourself, should a film such as this really be trusted, seeing as it is being so strongly supported by groups such as Hezbollah, and is reportedly the current favorite film of Fidel Castro?
Please Mr. Moore, if you are going to make a documentary in the future, get your story straight and present it in an unbiased manner rather than using it as a banner to support your personal opinions. Shame on you Mr. Moore.
