Bizzy Weekend!
Mon Aug 02 2004

I’m in a whimsical mood this evening, but couldn’t come up with a title to match my whimsy level. This one is close enough.

I spent the weekend down at Bro’s house canning with Kathy. We made apricot butter (I definitely have to make more of this!) canned apricots, canned nectarines (spiced and plain) and nectarine preserves that the kids are anxious to have on pancakes in the near future. It was a busy hectic day doing all of this, but a blast nonetheless!

Yesterday after I got home, Hubby, myself & #2 went up to the show room for the builder we are working with again to look at all the goodies we have choices for putting into the house. We will be making a few more visits to look, compare and debate on before making our final decision. On the next trip up I want to take one of the cushions from our couch as I don’t know whether the carpet we like will complement or clash horribly with it. Our couch is a very unusual color, rather like bronze and sage green mixed together.

I was watching something on TV earlier that had me flabbergasted. First I want to specify that I still have not completely made up my mind as to who I will vote for, so my response to his statements is not a result of any “anti” feelings I have towards him. John Kerry made a comment in regards to the lack of urgency the Bush administration has towards terrorism, and that the Bush administration policies are “fueling terrorist recruitment”.

EXCUSE ME?????? (waving hand in air) Married to someone who was activated due to the urgency and seriousness of the Bush administrations policies towards terrorism here!

I have to admit that my opinion of Kerry needs to be reassessed after this statement. I’m not sure how much confidence I have in someone who doesn’t seem to understand the war on terror that we have been waging since 9/11. I would hope that Kerry clarifies what his intended message was when giving he gave this statement. As someone who had been in the military (I won’t even go into the purple hearts bit) I would hope that he would be better able to recognize what the current policies are in place for.

Onto other subjects…

Tomorrow Hubby and I will be slaves to the house while we wait for the maintenance folks to come out and fix one of the toilets again. The pluming is so old in this house, and has continuing symptoms of needing to be replaced. The military doesn’t want to put too much effort into it though as all of these older houses are scheduled to be leveled in the next few years. It doesn’t matter that we are living in it now, and that it would be nice if it worked reliably; why should they put time, money and effort in something that will be torn down sometime between now and 2009?

Did I mention the house we are having built will have 3 toilets in it? Did I mention the bathrooms will be larger than a broom closet?

I can’t wait! I’m still terrified, but I can’t wait!

My biggest issue with Kerry on terrorism is that he plans to sit back and wait until we are attacked before taking any real action against terrorist. I believe we need to act before they attack to hopefully prevent any more attacks.

As to the statement he made about fueling terrorist recruitments, one must ask, how can they hate us anymore than they already hate us? After all, they have been attacking us for years. If anything the lack of action taken during the nineties seems to have only emboldened them further. The policies Kerry favors are the policies of the past and we know where those led; 911.

Do we really want to go down that road again?

Lots of things running through my head here. Have to say I agree with Rebecca though. Kerry's idea of a war on terrorism seems to be to strike back after we're attacked, only if it's going to be okay with the rest of the world. As to Bush's 'lack of urgency'??? You're right! What does Kerry think we've been doing???

Allow me to clarify the following for you.
"the Bush administration policies are ?fueling terrorist recruitment?.
What he is refuring to is the fact that Bush's foreign policies are angering many middle Eastern countries. The anger and growing resentment towards the U.S. is making it easier for terrorists to recruit new members. Thus making John Kerrys statment true. Understand it now?
