Family Breakfast
Sat Mar 13 2004

We ended up doing breakfast this morning with Bro & SIL instead of dinner last night. With today being Bro's birthday it was almost treated as a mini-party. It was delicious and fun.

After that we spent some time working in the yard, and then I took #1 off to run a few errands.

Part of his agreement to allow the doctor to give him the shot the other day was my promise to get him two bacon-double cheese burgers from Burger King. For lunch today that deal was met. He chose to have a large milkshake instead of the second burger, so lunch was quite tasty for him.

Despite their being grounded from watching TV, playing video games and watching movies, we’re considering caving in and taking the kids to a movie tonight. We wanted to do something family oriented today, but everything we could thing of to do involved the use of two hands. Since that effectively eliminates #1 from anything, we will let them have a movie for today. We will be taking in Agent Cody Banks tonight. I wanted Hidalgo, but was vetoed. A movie with cute girls is much better than a movie about a horse, according to the boys.

I don’t necessarily agree with that (says she who would endlessly watch My Friend Flicka, Misty of Chincoteague and the Black Stallion if given the opportunity).

#1 also thinks we should do my birthday dinner tonight. His recommendation is frozen pizza and birthday cake. DiGiorno and a rainbow frosted cake were purchased, and now I’m having a heck of a time keeping all three boys out of it.

I think #1 had ulterior motives.

I think I’ll spend some time surfing the web for flowers and plants for the yard now. I’ve been looking at various Hostas, Lenten Roses, Lily of the Valley, and other shade lovers. I’ve got a big patch by my front door that gets virtually no sun at all. Most of my yard ranges from Mostly Shady to Partly Shady, and there is one section that gets lots of good sun (this is where I put my tomatoes and peppers). I’ve never been much on Impatiens or Pansies.

This year I’d like to maybe have some hanging baskets across the front of the house. I’d particularly like to have some Chenille Plants (a.k.a. fuzzy kitten tails) among whatever I do put up.

I love this time of year! Off to surf for foliage!

Let me know how umbearable that Cody Banks film turns out, I promised to take the tykes to a movie and I need to know if I should bring a pillow. In my opinion, James Bond only works if it's a hard drinking, womanizing James Bond not as a boy with a quivering voice.

I would have gone for Hidalgo as well but not for the horse. The guy on top of the horse is the one I find interesting.

so are we getting a puppy then? mmm? 6 years of volunteer work for the SPCA has shown me more of human ignorance towards pets than i'd care to think about. yay you for giving great advice!

Amen sister! One more little tip for people looking for one particular dog: the humane society has a waiting list if you are looking for a certain breed or look they give you a call when they get a dog that matches your criteria.

I've volunteered at the local Humane Society a lot. There's a husky who owns my heart and would come home with me in a heart beat were it not for the fact that's he's roughly the size of a pony and not exactly child friendly.

I wish the bastards who run these puppy mills could be warehoused in the same conditions. Like a $500 fine and a revoked license is enough punishment. Phooey on them.

Thanks for the heads up on Cody Banks. I'll be sure to bring my pillow and hope for the next film Cody's already past puberty and indulging in more adult spy past times whilst not busy saving the world.

Every pet I ever had was either found in front of a Safeway store or bought in a pet store. We love all our furry family members and our pets too. The best dog we have ever had is our big dog that is a Dalmatian/Lab mix found in the back of a pet shop. He is completely loving and intelligent, loyal and healthy. He only cost $45.00 and that $45.00 has given our family endless love and fun. He is a part of our family, spoiled rotten, and the best dog I have ever known. We also make a commitment when we get a pet. If we bring one home, we keep it no matter what. I understand about getting rid of a dog that bites a child, but all the others should be kept. We feel like our pets become our children. I would not get rid of one of my children no matter what they do. They just need extra attention sometimes.
If anyone is thinking of getting a dog or cat, make sure you are committed to keeping it for the rest of its life. Anything else is cruel.

I'm linking to that puppy mill entry in a future entry, just to make sure it keeps current. People need to not only read this, but understand that if they want humane treatment for animals, the trump card is in their hands. Get a foundling, get a lost waif, get a pup that needs your love and hasn't had the love bred out of it.
