After The Break...
Thu Mar 11 2004

I decided to keep #1 home today. Sleep last night was sketchy for him as every time he rolled over onto his hand the white hot pulses of pain woke him up.

It was his left hand upon which the finger was broken. Have I ever mentioned before that #1 is left handed? No? Well, #1 is left handed. The way it is splinted, any type of writing is out of the question. School should prove interesting. I offered to come with him to school for the next week and take all his notes for him. The look of horror on his face at the thought of his Mom being with him all day long at school was priceless. I will be out looking for a tape recorder today so he can tape his notes, then I will help him type them out at home after school.

The good thing about #1 getting to stay home today is that he will be able to attend the Luncheon at Hubby’s work with us. The theme today is Cajun, and I will be picking up 4 pounds of crawfish at 11 this morning to take in to Hubby. I told him I would do this on the condition that I got to stay for the lunch also. Now it will be a family affair with #1 and I there! #1 isn’t so sure about eating crawfish, but I hope he will give them a try. If not, that’s ok, more for the rest of us!!

So far the most challenging thing #1 is finding, is getting dressed. He wants to wear a sweatshirt, but none have arm openings big enough for his stupid FAT cast to fit through. I finally offered him one of my sweatshirts to wear today. It seemed fitting that I offered him the sweatshirt I got at Disneyland. It has Grumpy on the front of it.

It is 9 already, and I suppose I should get ready for the day. I don’t think Hubby would appreciate me coming to his work in my jammies.

2 years ago my 9 year old son broke his right arm. He had a bright neon orange cast on for 8 weeks. He learned to tuck the pencil into the cast and write. Not well, mind you,but he did pretty good! I hope your son feels better soon, he will get the hang of dressing, eating and writing with a cast on.
