Decking The Halls
Sun Dec 14 2003

Hubby and the two older boys put up lights outside, while #3 and I decked the halls, and living room, and kitchen, and den, and #3’s room inside. Every year we let #3 have Christmas lights in his room, which for the season (OK, and once into July) he uses as his night light.

We have enough decorations to possibly decorate 3 houses, but most of them come from Hubby’s family and have sentimental value to him that makes him reluctant to part with them. Each year I give him the “we should weed down” pitch. Each year I’m vetoed on this request. It doesn’t stop me from trying though. We REALLY need more room in our shed, and weeding down even one of the many Christmas boxes we have would be a step towards a more orderly shed.

The kids keep asking what happens now that Saddam has been captured. We let them know that we don’t know and we need to watch the news to find out. This is the first time since 9/11 that they have been interested in watching the news with us (with the exception of #3). The twins are becoming more and more aware of the world outside of our home and community. I think it’s good for them to have this awareness. Some would argue that it brings and end to childhood innocence too soon, but I disagree. They can maintain their innocence and still be kids, despite being aware of what is going on in the world.
