It's That Time of the Year Again
Thu Sep 11 2003

Where Hubby plays hookey from work and we go out to the Fair. Although, can it really be considered playing hookey when you take the day off and everyone knows why? Hmm...

After much yelling and waving my arms I finally got the kids out the door and on their way to school/the bus. I have to shake my head every day at this time. The kids don't like me yelling at them, but when I ask them to do something (like get dressed because they have to leave in less than 5 minutes) they don't do it. Hmm, I wonder why Allimom yells so much in the morning? Could it be because I have to ask them to get up/get dressed/shower/eat breakfast/brush their teeth 5 FREAKING TIMES?????????

Breath Alli, breath. Feel your blood pressure go down as each peaceful moment passes... Focus on the rest of the day. Envision walking past all the exhibits, looking at produce, animals, crafts, and booth after booth of useless items people want to sell you. Smell the scones, the bar-b-que, hamburgers and all sorts of wonderful junk food.

OK, I'm ready for the day now.

Boy, have I been there. Sometimes it works to tell them that you won't be nagging anymore. You'll get them up, but they know their routines, and don't need you to remind them. (That IS true!) If they haven't done what they need to do by the time it's time to go, they'll go as they are. One time carrying their socks and shoes as they walk to the bus barefoot is usually all it takes! That isn't being mean or harsh, either--it's teaching them responsibility early on, absolutely the biggest favor any parent can do their child(dren), and it takes a huge burden off You.

RC and I love fairs, too, but we missed this year's. Have a great time for me, too!

    Hugs,
    Ani

Try what Hubby did. He and Daughter used to get into it every morning because she was making him wait for her while she slowly got into the van for school. Finally he stopped yelling at her. He gave her a 10 minute warning, a five minute warning, and then said "I am leaving now" and he left. He made her walk to school. A few times of that in the cold rain and she suddenly got her butt in gear. Now she is the first one in the van each morning.

Whoo hoo at Hugh Jackman! Mmm-mmm!
LOL @ having to yell at your kids! If they listened to us the first time we ask them to, we wouldn't have to nag!
Have fun at the Fair! I envy you getting to go to a Fair!
    Love,
    E.L.

    lol at Pinkspiritlady's idea.

I know exactly what you mean about trying to get kids moving in the morning, I thought my daughter was a special case, I have to fight with her to eat, get dressed and make sure she brushes her teeth... she tends to move slowly in the morning and I end up having to raise my voice in order to get her moving... yet she still doesn't do what she needs to do. Guess all kids are like this judging by the comments left in your entry. heh.

If you find the cure be sure to let me know!!

I can relate to getting kids up too although this year I do have to give them credit. They actually seem to want to go to school.
