What a Weekend!
Sun Aug 03 2003

We went camping this weekend. We had a wonderful time up in the Cascades, surrounded by majestic Douglas Fir and spindly Western Hemlock along the banks of the Cowlizt River. We all got a chuckle from the name, La Wis Wis. With plans to do some fishing and hiking, we set up our camp and discovered that we left the fishing poles in the car port at home. Ah well, I guess that means I just need to talk the family into another camping trip in the next month or so.

The campground was beautiful. Most camping sites were surrounded with heavy forest and undergrowth, which gave a great deal of privacy to each camp. There was a trail with a short hike up to some falls. We would have gone on some of the more adventuresome hikes, but the twins seem to have outgrown all of their shoes that are fit for walking more than short distances. I think their feet have grown a size and a half since about Easter!

We had fun, and the boys particularly enjoyed eating them self sick on smores last night. They did manage to save a few marshmallows to munch on while breakfast was being cooked this morning. I think there are few things that taste better than bacon and eggs in the outdoors cooked over a camp fire. Of course, there was a burn ban in effect, so ours were cooked over a camp stove. It was just as wonderful though! We had some left over onions and cheese from the taco's last night, so Hubby and I tossed those in with our eggs and were in heaven.

We got home to the shock of our weekend. When we left yesterday morning, there were several SMALL zucchini and squash on the vines. Between yesterday morning and this evening those suckers more than tripled in size. A couple of the zukes are as long as my forearm. #1 is in heaven about that. With that much zucchini, we will definitely be making zucchini bread in the next few days! It is also helping our stock in preparation for Sneak Some Zucchini onto Your Neighbor's Porch night on Friday. The kids have mapped out the area each of them will cover. They are setting out after dark, duffel bags full of the fruit to spread the veggie wealth to the surrounding neighbors. They did a dry run a few nights ago and discovered that each of them can hit 2 houses in 1 minute. That is 6 houses per minute, with an estimated 54 houses to hit. They should be done in no time!

Wow! That's awesome, going camping and going back to nature, in a way. La Wis Wis! LOL! Very suggestive of a bathroom activity! LOL! Naughty me!
About 'Cradle of Life', it was absolutely crap. I started laughing at the punch-the-shark's-nose part. She's underwater, for God's sake. How do you hit with force with all the water pressure slowing your movements down? And she survived 3 days in the ocean without fresh water? Even Superman can't do that. And she's only a mortal, albeit a strong one.
Funny but I was telling my friend the other day that you'd have to be a 13-year-old boy to enjoy the Tomb Raider movies.
    LOL!
    Love,
